Artist's Description
Garuthmaan (2022) is the third painting in my Scriptures series. Garuthmaan (Sanskrit: गरुत्मान्) means “most powerful.” It depicts Garuda, the Hindu king of birds and the mount of Lord Vishnu. He is depicted with his hands folded in prayer to Lord Vishnu. I chose blue for the background to represent the color of Lord Vishnu’s skin. The verses in the background from the Sanskrit hymn Vishnu Sahasranamam (Sanskrit: विष्णू सहस्रनामम्) sing the praises of Lord Vishnu and describe his accomplishments.
