Artist's Description
Shri (2023) is the fourth painting in my Scriptures series. Shri (Sanskrit: श्री) means “wealth and prosperity.” It depicts Lakshmi, the Hindu goddess of wealth, fortune, power, beauty, fertility and prosperity and the consort of Lord Vishnu. She is depicted holding a lotus, one of her symbols that represents fortune, self-knowledge, and spiritual liberation. Gold coins are falling from her palm as she is the goddess of wealth. I chose magenta for the background to represent the lotus. The verses in the background from the Sanskrit hymn Lakshmi Ashtakam (Sanskrit: लक्ष्मी अष्टकं) sing the praises of Goddess Lakshmi.
