Artist's Description

Swagatham (2020) is a painting that is a little closer to home. It depicts my colorful South Asian family— my parents and I— in traditional Indian clothing and bright Indian colors in Thota Vaikuntam style. Swagatham (Sanskrit: स्वागतम्) means welcome. I wanted to portray Indian hospitality and warmth through this painting with plates of flowers and laddoos (Hindi: लड्डू, round Indian desserts).

NOTE: The watermark in the lower right does not appear in the final print. Aanya is a 12-year-old amateur artist who currently lives in California.
